kitchen tip Tuesday…kitchen multi-tasker from the office

At this time of year I bake from the old recipe collection that belonged to my mother and grandmother and from my own recipe collection that are all still on paper recipe cards.

To hold the cards as I assemble and combine the recipe ingredients, I use a large Binder Clip.
It holds that card upright, easy to read and out of my way (and out of the way of flying flour and frosting…I am a messy baker...!)

I also keep a supply of small and medium clips on hand for a variety of tasks in the kitchen.

I use them to hold the skin closed after stuffing a whole chicken or game hen. I started to use them when I was in Paris and was stuffing whole Bresse chicken to roast for a dinner party at my appartement. I was naturally without a trussing needle and thread to close the cavity to keep the stuffing inside the bird. However, for some reason I had office supplies.
I have found this method to work like a charm, just be careful to let the clips cool before removing them.

I use binder clips to reseal multi-serve bags of frozen foods, pretzels, chips and the like.

Binder clips also come in handy to keep my side-towel in place, clipped to my apron as I cook.

I am sure there are many, many other uses for these multi-tasking clips from the office supply store.

How would you put Binder Clips to work in your kitchen?

I would love to hear your ideas…merci in advance...!

Breathtaking snow photos! We haven't yet had a full inch, but got a half inch last weekend. Then 58 degrees today! And snow forecast for tomorrow. That's Kansas!
Binder clips! I adore them. Let's see, at home I use them to clip the pre-washed salad bags shut (yes, I admit I use the pre-washed stuff -just too tired to chop and wash!) I use them to hang up the wet marblized paper to dry. Also to dry flowers hanging upside down. Wonderful for closing brown sugar bags. And coupons! They're great for clipping them together so I can throw them into the car, carry them into the store and forget to use them till they're expired. Frankly, I like your recipe card holding idea much better!

Merci beaucoup Jeanette...
I am pleased that you like the snow images.
The snow can really be lovely here in the forest, especially when it stays on the trees. We are forecast also for more snow tomorrow and all week...
You are close, so it could be the same storm we will get.

Merci for all your Binder Clips tips...
The tip about hanging dry flowers and herbs is a great idea. I have to remember that in summer and autumn.

The recipe card tip was an accident...the clips were on my kitchen work desk and I was trying to follow an old recipe from my grandmother's recipe collection, read her instructions and not get the card with her lovely writing full of flour and dough (I am a very messy baker...lol...)
the binder clip worked well for messy me so I wanted to pass it on.

Merci encore for your great tips and support of my humble blog....
Stay warm...

Terrie, I love your blog and especially these handy tips. We use clips to hold our coupons together as does Jeanette. I'm definately going to start putting your ideas into practice.

Hello Terrie,
I've passed along a little award that I received from a blogger in East Africa. You'll see the award on my blog.
I don't know how you feel about these sort of awards. If you choose not to use it, don't worry. All I can tell you is that I received it from someone I respect very much. And I'm passing it along to you because I find your blog exceptional.

Here are the rules:

The rules for this award are :
* Put the logo on your blog
* Add a link to the person who awarded you
* Nominate 10 other blogs for this award (I only awarded 5, I'm a bit short of time.)
* Add links to those blogs
* Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs
* Give a reason why you consider their blogs cool

Best to you and thanks for adding my blog to your list!

Yes--those are some gorgeous snow pictures there! I agree. And the binder clips are so colorful and who knew--so useful! I'm laughing at some of jeanette's ideas...classic! I have a clothespin that's attached upright to the back of a beautiful handmade pottery tile, and it stands up behind that pretty tile and holds my recipes upright for me. I bought it in a little shop in Colorado once. But I also like your clip ideas! Excellent!
