baby girl Elberta grows up…

Freedom is nothing else but a chance to be better. ~Albert Camus

My first tomato that appeared in my urban-suburban garden one month ago, the heirloom Elberta Girl, has also been the first tomato to fully ripen on the vine on June 29th.
Last year my first tomato was ripe and ready to eat on the 4th of July.
I beat that date by 5 days this year. That is not a huge margin, but it was a seemed like a major victory for my tiny urban-suburban garden after all the work I have done.

Elberta girl will join my Independence Day festivities as part of a salad with my terrace French lettuces and Snap and Snow peas dressed with a soft, light Dijon vinaigrette.

How is your garden growing…?

What are you making to eat this summer weekend…?

The journey is the reward.. ~Taoist saying

My 4th of July celebration has certainly changed this year from what I am used to doing to celebrate this All-American holiday, but I intend to find great joy in the little treasures that surround me.

I wish everyone a great Independence Day from the USA…and I wish you all a wonderful warm and blue-skied summer weekend filled with lush, juicy tomatoes to eat with those you love…!

Awww. It's been fun watching Elberta Girl grow big and strong. May she bring you a flavorful and colorful salad.

Merci mille fois cher Cory...
Cory, you are such a faithful friend to watch my little girl grow...
It will be hard to munch her, but I am sure she would want that I slice and dice her on your cutting board gift before "salad time" which I will.

I still cannot get over that spontaneous gift.
Every time I see it, it reminds me of the honest goodness of people like you dear friend.

I wish you and Brent a wonderful and yummy 4th of July...!
Love you both...
bisous…xxx

P.S. Will you ever post an image of you two…?
I’ll bet you are the cutest and sweetest couple ever.

My garden was a bust--three patio tomatoes which were not fit to eat, two peppers--the same. The herbs are still hanging in there but with the extreme heat I imagine it's only a matter of time before they too disappoint me. My mother in law brought one of hers to our house and it was the best tomato I've eaten in years! Happy 4th to you dear girl.

Do you really have the heart to eat it?

With the hot weather we have since a week, I'm also completely converted to salad eating, gazpacho... and a bit of rosé wine!
