gluten-free news…Valencia orange cake

On the 5th of May, Starbucks will be nationally launching the Gluten-Free Orange Valencia Cake with Almonds. It was announced that the Orange Valencia Cake is prepared with only seven ingredients: eggs, Valencia orange pulp, almonds, sugar, orange peel, gluten-free baking powder, and orange oil.

Valencia Oranges - Marché rue Cler

This moist citrus cake topped with crunchy almonds is reported to deliver a good percentage of your daily dose of vitamin C. The Starbucks spokespersons state that the cakes will come individually packaged to prevent cross contamination. For more information, go to Starbucks blog.

my dear friend, Yoko at Starbucks, rue Montorgueil, Paris

I have to honestly say, that I have not always been a huge fan of Starbucks. But I do remember when I had a very high pressure architecture job and I did occasionally need to get my caffeine fix from their lovely café across the street from my office. A gluten-free sweet as this new Valencia orange cake, would have been a very welcome treat to go with my double-espresso from time-to-time.

I am looking forward to having a taste of this new product from Starbucks. If it is as tasty as they promise, I will include it in my taste test in my monthly Gluten-Free Food Review in May.

But please stay tuned for my end of the month review of the Gluten-Free foods that I have taste-tested out in April. My dear sister has been most helpful in scouring markets for the tastiest gluten-free foods available for me to feature here on my blog.

I don't particularly like Starbucks coffee but some of their sweets are pretty good and the Valencia orange cake sounds delicious.

I agree chêre Natasha, Starbucks coffee has not been my fave in recent times. But I certainly applaud their efforts to supply a bit of sweets to us gluten-free consumers.

Perhaps too little, too late, but we will see if this cake delivers in taste and the safety factors to keep gluten-free people healthy and happy.
I promise to report on this.

Mmmmm, I love anything citrus, and especially orange, so that sounds appealing to me. I'll have to see if our local Starbucks has that. I can't drink their coffee, unfortunately--it just leaves me anxious and a jangle of nerve endings. I wish I could--I love the smell of it! I'll look forward to your post on that, Terrie!

The cakes sounds wonderful--will they be using almond flour? What most surprises me is that you have a sister! I've just been thinking of you all by yourself. I must not have been reading close enough? I have four sisters and one brother and then all those children--just no mom or dad anymore. :(
To enter this comment I had to type sunpund--I think it might just be a new word for me!

Oh my, Paris has changed! There were no Starbucks when I lived there.
The cake sounds delicious. Can you get the recipe? As you well know, almond powder is readily available here.

Like you, I have some mixed feeling concerning Starbucks! Maybe it's just that are too many of them and all over the world (including on Rue Montorgueil)! I prefer the typical local places! ... but of course most of them would not offer that gluten free cake! You are perfectly excused! :-)

Bonjour Ms. Terrie :)
The cake sounds delicious and would be a nice accompaniment to a cup of jo ... I'd be happy to pass along any finds I come across in the gluten-free dept. if that helps ... as a matter of fact one of the Stop & Shop stores nearby has an entire aisle of their health food area devoted to gluten-free products!

Love the parasol photo ... so cheerful and make me yearn for summer days again ...

Oh, and btw ... consider yourself lucky! Our favorite blood orange juice is not available here on the East Coast, so they tell me in my local TJ's!

Hope you are well, mon amie :)

I an counting the days! I don't drink coffee but do enjoy their signature hot chocolate and standing in line in front of their food counter some days is sheer torture, particularly when they have lemon tart!

By the way, if you can find it, try Nairn's Mixed Berries Oat Biscuits. They are pretty good, especially with tea or chocolat chaud!
