Chicago’s Downtown Farmstand
66 East Randolph Street
on Randolph just east of Wabash
http://www.chicagofarmersmarkets.us/

Not exactly a Farmers Market, as it has a permanent storefront.
However, I wanted to include this great market here because the Farmstand’s promise is local, delicious, and edible products, all from within 250 miles of Chicago.

The coolest thing that I bought there last year was Honey made by bees that pollinate flowers on the green roof of Chicago's City Hall. “Rooftop Honey” sells for $2 here at the Farmstand location, Watertower Pumping Station, Chicago Cultural Center, Gallery 37 and Chicago Green City Market. I will be blogging about Chicago’s Bees and “Rooftop Honey” very soon.

Local does not just mean locally grown. In addition to sustainably grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs in season (including many organic items). Chicago’s Downtown Farmstand features a broad selection of edibles produced throughout the region. Each day, a wide range of dairy products, condiments, seasonings, preserves, breakfast favorites, baked goods, and other items arrive at their location.
If you are in downtown Chicago, please pay them a visit. (they are only a few blocks from Millennium Park).

Chicago Farm Heirloom Tomato Stand
River North1204 N. Clybourn Ave.
(At Clybourn and West Division across from Seward Park) Chicago, IL 60610
Weekly: Monday-Friday, 3 - 6 pm; Saturday, 10 am - 1 pm
From: Aug 10, 2009 to Oct 31, 2009

Another Farm Market in Chicago that most people don’t know about is the Chicago Farm Heirloom Tomato Stand. If you love tomatoes as much as I do, it is worth a trip here.
I will also be blogging about it here as soon as it opens.
Tomato season cannot come soon enough for me.

So let's hear about your favorite markets...!

Terrie, you've got better farmer's markets that we do here! That's not fair!

Very impressive list. The man pictured in the first picture looks like he's possibly an Amish or Mennonite? While visiting Chicago last summer I came across a market in the plaza where the Flamingo (?) is. I loved seeing the flowers that don't grow here in Florida.

Merci mille fois Dedene for your visit...I am not sure that our markets are better than France.
But I am lucky that in the Midwest USA I am in the center of rich argiculture and dairy states.

Merci beaucoup Gail for your kind comment. My friend in the image is Mennonite from Indiana, hence the truck. Amish would have a horse and buggy...lol...
My summer home in Indiana is near both congregations so I have come know some of the differences over the years.

Gail, the Downtown Chicago market that you attended was in Federal Plaza Farmers Market on Adams + Dearborn.
It is also home to Alexander Calder's blazing red Flamingo stabile located in front of Mies van der Rohe's Kluczynski Federal Building.

My past architectural firm was located on Monroe and Dearborn right smack in the middle of Federal Plaza Farmers Market and Daley Plaza Farmers Market (home of Pablo Picasso's famous "untitled" Corten steel sculpture.
So lunch time was always fun in the summer to have 2 days to market.

Happy Mother's Day to you both...!

Great list! I'll be sending it to my brother and my sister-in-law who live in Chicago. Thanks!

Great market listing - many more than we ever get in Nottingham. We have a farmers market on the market square every two months and some of the smaller towns hereabouts get them inbetween.

I adore blueberries and sweetcorn (not together! lol)and really enjoyed seeing them on this post. Thanks Terrie.

I used to work across the street from the Sears Tower. I would go to the Sears Tower Farmers Market during lunch all the time. It was a wonderful excuse to break away from work. Also, one of my favorite farmers markets was the Lincoln Square Market at N. Lincoln and Western on Tuesdays. So fun and a quick walk from where I used to live.

Merci for your visit sweet Natasha...I am glad that this lists helps...I did it so I would keep organized and not forget which market is when.
I am happy that it will be of use to your brother and sister-in-law.

Salut cher Phil, I am glad that you liked this list of my fave markets.
I am indeed spoiled with all these markets so close and this is just about 1/10th of the list for my state alone.
I am also spoiled that my corn and blueberries come from a few miles down the road from my home.

Merci beaucoup Cory for your comment...I loved the downtown markets when I worked there.
My architectural firm was smack in between the Federal Plaza Farmers Market and Daley Plaza Farmers Market.
I will have to check out the Lincoln Square Market.
Merci for the heads up on that...!

Have been a bit absent and only now realised that you are "back" again! Unfortunately this list is not much of help to me, but to see some real markets like this is a great pleasure!

You are soooo lucky to have access to so many markets! Wow! My local farmer's market in town only had one vendor last year, and sadly it wasn't organic.

Nevertheless, I'm still looking forward to seeing them open for the season. They don't get started until June ...

Dear Peter thank you for your support...I am happy you like the images.
I hope that you take more images of the very beautiful marches of Paris.

Salut chêre Barabara. Merci for your kind comment.
I hope that you find a few more markets near you on Long Island.

This is my fave time of year. It is like Christmas every day...never know what you may find that morning at the markets.

I love farmer markets. Right now up here in Wisconsin, it's just pretty much flowers still.

P.S. I love your blog.

Yum! You sure have a good selection to choose from. We have a few here, and one that's very large, and I love going, but we don't have as many as you do there. Sounds like great fun. Lovely photos of all those goodies.
